No, Benson hasn’t been fired. Benson has gotten transferred out of the special victims unit due to her close relationship with Tucker (Robert John Burke). Tucker’s name came up as the team was investigating a sex ring of underage Catholic school girls.

So after more than 17 years, Benson no longer works for SVU. This unit has been Olivia’s family, and they’ve been with her in the midst of her best and worst times. Where does Benson go from here?

“We’ll see in episode 18, she moves into a little cubicle desk in community affairs. There’s a woman saying, ‘Oh my God, we’re all so excited to have you here. We can’t wait. We’re going to learn so much from you.’ She’s starstruck,” Warren told The Hollywood Reporter. “There are all these ‘Policemen are your friend’ posters hanging on the wall. It appears to be [Benson’s] worst nightmare. It’s a little bit of a hat tip to Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”

This shocking twist puts Benson and Tucker out of power, and there’s nothing they can do about it. “He’s out of his job, she’s out of her’s and the ring is doing a lot of damage,” he continued. “And they’re not in a position of power to do anything about it,” Leight says. “They are completely disempowered, so that’s what they’re dealing with.”

Dodds (Andy Karl) is now in charge of the special victims unit. Will Benson ever get her job back? Law & Order: SVU airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
