Nancy Mace started her first term as a congresswoman in January 2021. She was elected during the 2020 election, after making her political debut in 2014. She first ran to try to receive the Republican nomination for Senate in South Carolina in the 2014 election, but lost. She was first elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2017 in a special election. She was elected again during the general election in 2018.
Prior to becoming a politician, she graduated from the Citadel in 1999, being one of the first women to do so, and she wrote a memoir about her experience at the military college. She also started a consulting firm called The Mace Group.
In 2021, Mace traded barbs with her fellow freshman GOP colleague Marjorie Taylor Greene, when she criticized Lauren Boebert’s Islamophobic comments during a speech to supporters.
