Penelope Cruz (born Penelope Cruz Sanchez on April 28, 1974 in Alcobendas, Madrid) is She was signed at the age of 15 and starred in her first film at 16. The roles that followed included, Open Your Eyes, The Hi-Lo Country, The Girl Of Your Dreams and Women On Top. She received recognition for her lead roles in the 2001 films Vanilla Sky, All The Pretty Horses and Blow. In 2008, Penelope received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She was the first Spanish actress in history to receive and Oscar and to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Penelope is extremely philanthropic. She has done volunteer work in Nepal, Uganda and India, where she spent a week working with Mother Teresa, assisting in a leprosy clinic. Since that trip, Penelope began a foundation to support homeless girls in India. She donated her salary from her first Hollywood film, The Hi-Lo Country, to Mother Teresa’s mission. Penelope has also done work with children and men who were former gang members and has fought for AIDS awareness. Penelope had a three year relationship with actor Tom Cruise, but it ended in January 2004. Penelope is married to Spanish actor Javier Bardem. They were married in July 2010. They have a son, born in 2011, and a daughter born in 2013.
