The 43-year-old Mexican-American singer filed divorce papers on October 1, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for her divorce, according to E! News.
Around the same time she was planning to leave Esteban, his publicist released a statement citing “private circumstances that occurred during the lapse of their two-year marriage” as the reason for the dissolution.
Esteban, who pitched for such teams as the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers failed to respond to Jenni’s filing before Jenni’s accidental death and thus a judge did not grant a divorce.
While Jenni and Esteban have no children together, she’s survived by five children and two grandchildren. So far, there has been no comment from Esteban on his wife’s death.
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Jenni died on Dec. 9 when her jet crashed and many of her celebrity friends are expressing their sadness.
“My heart breaks for the loss of Jenni Rivera & everyone on the plane,” Eva Longoria tweeted. “My prayers go out to her family. We lost a legend today.”
Jennifer Lopez also tweeted this message: “So sad!! Praying for Jenni Rivera’s children and family and the passengers families.”
Mario Lopez posted: “Spent some time with Jenni Rivera recently. What an amazing lady… Cool, smart, funny & talented. Such a travesty… God Bless her family.”
UPDATE: Jenni’s remains were found at the site of the crash on Dec. 11. And in a cruel twist of fate, it is believed that Jenni’s traveling conditions were not as safe as could be, as her Pilot was overworked and the plane had previous history of crashing. So sad.
