I’m referring, of course, to Stefan and Elena’s intense — and beautifully written — break-up scene, which came as a bit of a shock. After a tumultuous couple of days, Elena admitted to Stefan that her feelings for Damon have magnified since she became a vampire, to which Stefan replied, “I can’t do this Elena. Not anymore.”
I have to say, I’m pretty proud of Stefan. He’s been such a freakin’ pushover for the past three seasons, bending to Elena’s every whim and allowing her to toy with his emotions. I’m glad he finally stood up for himself, what he wants, and what he deserves. RIP, “Stelena.”
As we’ve all noticed, Damon and Elena have grown closer and closer with each passing week, and it’s never been more evident than it was tonight. The way he talked her out of killing herself on Wickery Bridge — hallucinations can really mess with a girl’s head — proved he’s the one she cares for the most.
And can we talk about the following scene, when Elena woke up to find Damon perched on her windowsill like some kind of sexy kitten? The way he held her hand as he told her the truth abou the vampire cure gave me chills! So much love between those two.
Human Elena may have chosen Stefan, but Vampire Elena rides and (almost) dies for “Delena.”
A hunter is born:
In order to put an end to Elena’s hallucinations, a new hunter had to be born in Connor’s (Todd Williams) place, which is where “Little Gilbert” came into play. By laying the smackdown on one of Klaus’ hybrids, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) officially became a hunter, and he even got a snazzy new hand tattoo to make it official.
But by fixing one problem, the gang may have inadvertantly brought about a much greater one. Professor Shane (David Alpay) told Bonnie (Kat Graham) to come back to him when Jeremy “completes his mark,” because he’s “going to be the only one who can help.”
I’ve got a bad feeling about this, y’all.
The other breakup:
Stefan and Elena weren’t the only ones who hit a rough patch this week, as it looks like Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) might also be donezo. Tyler was furious with Caroline for sacrificing his hybrid buddy to break Elena’s hallucination curse, but his rage multiplied by a billion when he found out that she promised to go on a date with Klaus (Joseph Morgan)!
Something tells me “Klaroline” fans, and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), were very happy about this new development. Very happy, indeed.
And then there’s Matt:
I was bummed at the serious lack of Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) this week … until the very end of the episode. He may not be cool — or legal — enough to be Damon’s replacement drinking buddy, but Matt did pull through with some crucial information: Pastor Young was in cahoots with Professor Shane before he died!
We won’t know exactly what that means for a few more weeks, but at least we have the beautiful image of Matt in that tiny little Mystic Grill shirt to tide us over until we get our answers.
It feels weird doing a Stelena/Delena breakdown this week, considering how obvious the results are going to be, but it’s tradition:

How do you feel about Stefan and Elena’s breakup? Do you think it’s permanent, or will she be back in his arms when the show returns in two weeks? And what’s your take on the future of Tyler and Caroline? It’s not looking good for either pair, so drop me a comment with your best theories!
