Buzz Aldrin (born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. on January 20, 1930 in Glen Ridge, NJ) is an American engineer and former astronaut. He was the the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 11 and was the second person to walk on the moon, following Neil Armstrong. He was also the first person to hold a religious ceremony on the moon and took communion — which he received a great amount of backlash for. Buzz retired from active duty in 1972 after 21 years of service, but returned to the Air Force in a managerial role. In November 2016, Buzz was evacuated from the South Pole while visiting as part of a tourist group.

Personal Life:
Buzz graduated from West Point. He has been married three times, first to Joan Archer, the mother of his three children, then to Beverly Zile (1975-78). His third marriage was to Lois Driggs Cannon, from whom he filed for divorce in 2011. In his books, Buzz has opened up about his battle with alcoholism and depression upon returning from Apollo 11. He is an active supporter of the Republican party.
